The third exclusive track from The Nels Cline Singers Draw Breath (due JUNE 26TH) is now up on Nels' MySpace page as well as the Cryptogramophone homepage. As always, the Man Himself provided some thoughts on the tune:
"Recognize II" is the second of two acoustic pieces on the CD, and is dedicated (like "Recognize I") to my parents. It is a little chamber piece, and is actually in a major mode -- a rarity for me. Both "Recognizes" are rubato with tiny passages in tempo, or allusions to time. Devin [Hoff] and Scott [Amendola] really GOT these pieces -- their simplicity is misleading -- and I am so lucky to be able to play with them.
And following in the grand (if somewhat recent) tradition of bloggers being the culture's first responders, music writer Tim Niland posted a review of The Nels Cline Singers Draw Breath on his excellent Jazz & Blues Music Reviews site -- and it's a positive one at that.
IN OTHER NEWS...Cryptogramophone's online music store IndieJazz has been undergoing a bit of retooling as of late. Besides the beautiful new site design, IndieJazz has a plethora of new arrivals and new releases -- not to mention some great independent labels to add to the ever-growing family, including Artistry Music, Crammed Disc, Gramavision, Pi Recordings, Sunnyside, Thirsty Ear and Zappa Records.
Thank you for the given links. Your article was nice my friend.
