Welcome to our monthly blog. I wish it were weekly, or even better yet whenever-there's-something-to-report-ly, but there's barely enough time in the day to eat three meals, let alone inform you of all the office gossip. Plus, I have absolutely no indicaton that anyone is reading this thing, so there's not much incentive to post. How about this: if you read Crypto Musings and you know it, clap your hands. Anyone? Hello?
The accolades for Jenny Scheinman's 12 Songs keep rolling in...great reviews from New Music Box, All About Jazz, All About Jazz again, Junkmedia, The Guardian (UK) and All Music Guide, plus those three reviews from the NY Times, if you haven't seen 'em yet.
The track "Highway 14," from Alan Pasqua's My New Old Friend, was recently selected as a "free featured download" on All About Jazz. Download the track here.
Si hablas espanol, puedes leer una entrevista con Scott Amendola en el periodico en linea "El Intruso." And for those of you that only speak globalization, click here for a review of the Scott Amendola Band's Believe from Jazztimes.
We're already hard at work preparing for the release of our next two albums, Prowl from Erik Friedlander/Topaz, and the door, the hat, the chair, the fact (A Tribute to Steve Lacy) from clarinetist Ben Goldberg, featuring Carla Kihlstedt (Tin Hat Trio, Sleepytime Gorilla Museum), Rob Sudduth, Devin Hoff (Nels Cline Singers, Good For Cows) and Ches Smith (Good for Cows, Secret Chiefs 3). The artwork for these two releases has been making the rounds recently, and predictably, it's GORGEOUS.
If you haven't already, subscribe to the new IndieJazz blog. It's the best way to stay informed of all the new stock that we're getting in. In fact, it's pretty much the only way, unless you're my dad, in which case I bring home all the promos to you anyway.
As a final note, some sleazy self-promotion: I've started my own blog, Cerebral Metalhead. It's mostly a portal to a new L.A. concert suggestion calendar I'm writing, but there are occasional rants and personal musings, as well. I'd love some traffic coming my way. It's lonely 'round here.
