It's a fine day at Crypto HQ: Joel Hamilton just stepped in to do some recording, we're listening to the mixes of the upcoming Jeff Gauthier Goatette album, and we just had some rockin' Chinese delivery. For some reason I decided to wear my old Boy Scout uniform to the office today, and I feel moral rectitude coursing through my veins. So here's a few Crypto news tidbits, true and accurate as I can make them. Scout's honor:
1) A month or two ago we sent out a newsletter with a special insider's discount on the Scott Amendola Band's Believe. We got such a great response that we're going to start sending out the newsletter on a monthly basis. Make sure that you've signed up for our mailing list (on the Crypto homesite) if you want access to discounts, pre-release info and other assorted goodies.
2) Pasqua, Dresser/Maroney and Amendola discs continue their warm reception on radio. Last week, Amendola cracked the top 10 on the CMJ Jazz charts, and he's getting plays from Washington State to Lille Cedex, France. For yet another week, the wonderful folks at Boulder's KGNU have kept Time Changes in their top 10 jazz album rotation. And as of a couple weeks ago, Pasqua's My New Old Friend was still getting over 10 spins a week at the NPR affiliates WDCB in Chicago and WCLK in Atlanta.
3) Public Service Announcement: The legendary saxophonist Michael Brecker was recently diagnosed with MDS (myelodysplastic syndrome) and is desperately in need of a stem cell transplant. His wife Susan sent out a notice to the jazz community looking for a matching bone marrow donor. Apparently, a person of Eastern European Jewish descent would most likely be a genetic match. For more information, contact Michael's management office at 212.302.9200 or write to [email protected]. And here's what Susan wrote about the donation process itself:
The screening involves a blood test only. It can be done very
quickly either at a marrow donation center or at a LOCAL LAB. The cost
is anywhere from $40 to $75 and your insurance may cover it. (In NYC,
you can call Frazier, at the NY Blood Bank, at 212-570-3441, and make
an appointment for HLA typing. It costs $40.00.) Check with your
local blood bank, or go to http://www.marrow.org to find the donor
center nearest you.
4) The new Jenny Scheinman album 12 Songs, featuring Bill Frisell among others, will hit stores in late September. We've already sent out the press copies, so expect some early-bird reviews to come floating in over the next couple weeks. I think you guys will like this one...
